Our Mission: To share the benefits of yoga and holistic fitness
with underserved communities on the South Side of Chicago,
planting seeds of health and wellness, and cultivating inner and outer peace.
We offer Yoga and Meditation classes free of charge five times per week--three classes onsite at our studio and two classes in our neighboring community of Washington Park. With a family poverty rate of 51 percent (the second highest in the city), Washington Park residents would normally lack access to the health-enhancing, stress-reducing, and self-empowering services that Chaturanga provides. The Chaturanga Seeds program aims to create new opportunities for people to experience the positive benefits of yoga and holistic fitness for themselves – as well as, over time, learn to teach and support others. Some of our current teachers came to the studio through Chaturanga Seeds classes, went on to receive scholarships for yoga teacher training, and are now teaching mindful movement to others. By acknowledging and stoking the spark of peace and wisdom inherent within each other, our collective strength increases as does our shared intention for a hopeful future.
